How long does my landlord have to return my bond in Tasmania?

If your owner or agent doesn't dispute your claim, the bond is automatically paid to you 14 days after you claim it (plus a few days for bank processing).

Want Compass to draft your MyBond claim and a calm reply to any dispute, citing the right Tasmanian sections?

In Tasmania your bond is held by the Rental Deposit Authority (RDA) through the MyBond system — not the agent. At the end of the tenancy you can claim your bond back; if the owner or agent hasn't made a claim within 3 working days, you can apply to have it returned. Once you claim, they have a window to dispute — if they don't, MyBond pays you out automatically after 14 days. Disputes are handled by the Residential Tenancy Commissioner.

What you can do right now

  1. Lodge your MyBond claim as soon as you've returned the keys.
  2. Keep your condition report and photos ready in case the owner disputes.
  3. Don't accept deductions for ordinary wear and tear.
